Belarusian Opposition Leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya at the War Museum

Events / International Cooperation / 26 May 2026

On the second day of her visit to Ukraine, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a ceremonial event at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.

The leader of the free Belarusian people presented high military awards to Belarusian soldiers who today have taken up arms to defend Ukraine, European democratic values, and to fight the common enemy of Belarus and Ukraine – the russian federation.

In her speech, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya expressed gratitude to Belarusian volunteers, humanitarian supporters, everyone who supports the opposition, and the War Museum in particular:

“It is a great honor for me to be here today – at the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.

Mr. Yurii, I would like to thank you and the entire museum team for welcoming us here. It is very important for us to be in a place where memory, dignity, and respect for those who fight are deeply felt. Today, our struggle – that of Belarusians and Ukrainians alike – is a shared one.

We are fighting the same evil, the same enemy. And each of us is making our own contribution to our common cause.”

The Director General of the War Museum, Yurii Savchuk, emphasized the importance of mutual support between the two peoples and stressed that the Museum will preserve the memory of their shared struggle:

“It is a great honor for us to serve as the venue for commemorating and recognizing Belarusian soldiers at such a high level. We have repeatedly implemented projects dedicated to Defenders from Belarus, and we will continue to do so.”

The Museum’s Director presented Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya with a commemorative gift – a mug bearing the inscription “For the Freedom of Ukraine” – as a reminder of the Museum and of the cause for which Ukrainians and Belarusians are now fighting side by side.

Žyvie Belarus! Glory to Ukraine!
