“Israelis Do Not Eat Bread Stained with Blood”: New Artifacts of International Solidarity in the War Museum’s Collection

International Cooperation / Museum Life / 11 June 2026

The NGO “Israeli Friends of Ukraine” has transferred several posters from a protest held on 30 April 2026, in the city of Herzliya, Israel, to the collection of the War Museum.

The participants of the protest spoke out against the import of grain which, according to the Ukrainian side, may have originated from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and been supplied by russia to the international market. The protesters called for people not to buy such products, emphasizing the moral dimension of trade during wartime.

The posters bore the following slogans: “Cheap grain may come at a high price,” “Is our bread truly morally kosher?” “Money from a stolen harvest today means missiles and drones against us tomorrow,” “Israelis do not eat bread stained with blood.”

Following the public outcry, the Israeli importer Zenziper refused to accept the cargo from the vessel Panormitis, which was carrying about 25,000 tonnes of wheat and barley. The vessel left Israel’s territorial waters without unloading.

The NGO “Israeli Friends of Ukraine” has supported Ukraine for many years. Since the beginning of the russian-Ukrainian war, the organization has been implementing humanitarian, educational, and cultural projects, helping Ukrainian service members, and holding solidarity actions with Ukraine in Israel.
