Lecture “Behind the Scenes: The Nuremberg Trials on Film”

Events / 29 November 2025

These days mark the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Nuremberg Trials, a symbolic event not only in the context of international justice but also of global political culture. Cinematography has repeatedly addressed this topic: from Soviet cinema to Hollywood dramas and miniseries. These works shaped the public’s perception of the event while leaving many controversial aspects behind the scenes.

This year’s film, “Nuremberg,” directed by James Vanderbilt and based on Jack El-Hai’s book, “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist”, has already drawn attention as one of the year’s most important cinematic releases. It stars Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Rami Malek.

During the lecture, we will analyze how the cinematic interpretations of Nuremberg changed over different periods, what artistic techniques and narratives the creators used, and how cinema defined the public understanding of this key judicial process of the 20th century.

We invite you to a meaningful conversation about memory, responsibility, and the role of cinema in comprehending historical justice.
