The Miracle near Chortkiv

Children at the Museum / Excursions and interactive events / 7 June 2026

In the summer of 1919, amid fighting between Ukrainian and Polish forces in Galicia, the Ukrainian Galician Army launched one of its most successful military operations: the Chortkiv Offensive. This battle became a powerful example of strategic skill, courage, and the Ukrainian army’s high morale in its struggle for statehood.

During the session, participants will:

  • see artifacts from the period of the West Ukrainian People’s Republic;
  • discuss the circumstances of the Ukrainian struggle for independence;
  • learn about the background, course, and consequences of the Chortkiv Offensive;
  • reconstruct the events of the “Miracle near Chortkiv” in June 1919 through participants’ memoirs and historical maps.
