Commemorative Events / 21 May 2026

The War Museum hosted a commemorative event in memory of Oleh Fedyna (“Metro”), a senior lieutenant and platoon commander of the 126th Separate Battalion of the 112th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was a professional serviceman, a participant in the Revolution of Dignity, and an employee of the Kyiv Metro system.

Memories of the Hero’s childhood, family life, and life journey were shared by his mother, Tetiana Ivanivna; his father, Ivan Mykolaiovych; his wife, Tetiana Volodymyrivna; his daughter, Anna; and his sister, Olena. According to his family, Oleh had been thoughtful and responsible since childhood. He loved nature and life, and dreamed of becoming a serviceman, just like his father.

Oleh Fedyna graduated from Kharkiv Military University and served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Later, he worked as a train driver for the Kyiv Metro. Roman Chubenko, head of the Obolon electric depot, together with Oleh’s colleagues Serhii and Oleksandr, spoke about his professional path. In their remarks, they remembered him as a responsible, principled, and exceptionally decent person.

An important chapter in Oleh’s life was his active civic position. He was a participant in the Revolution of Dignity. His close school friend and comrade-in-arms, Oleksandr Ostrovskyi, who is now serving in the military, spoke about this period. Oleh’s classmate Yevhen Korpan also shared warm memories of the Hero’s school years.

Yurii Savchuk, Director General of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War, emphasized the importance of commemorative events and the War Museum’s mission to preserve the stories of Ukraine’s fallen defenders. Vitalii Yemelianenko, Deputy Head of the Darnytskyi District State Administration in Kyiv, also addressed the audience.

After the full-scale invasion began, Oleh Fedyna returned to the military without hesitation. Serving with the 112th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, he defended Kyiv and the Kyiv region. After the region was de-occupied, he carried out combat missions in eastern Ukraine. He took part in battles in the Donetsk region, including near Sviatohirsk and the villages of Yarova, Svydove, Tetianivka, and Hryhorivka. He was killed on 15 April 2023 while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Dibrova in the Luhansk region.

The Hero’s military path was recalled by his comrades-in-arms: Volodymyr Fedko, the platoon’s combat medic; Tetiana Osypova, a representative of civil-military cooperation of the 112th Territorial Defense Brigade; and Major Yuliia Syrovatko, Deputy Commander of the 1st Battalion for Psychological Support of Personnel.

The participants remembered Oleh as a person devoted to service, deeply engaged with public life, sincere in communication, and demanding of himself. They also spoke about his passion for scale modeling: he created detailed miniatures, took part in specialized competitions, and received awards. Some of his works were displayed during the event.

In memory of her husband, Tetiana Fedyna donated to the War Museum’s collection a number of commemorative artifacts related to his life and service, including family photographs, unit sleeve patches, a collection of poems by his comrade-in-arms, and other memorial items.

The War Museum is sincerely grateful to Oleh Fedyna’s family, friends, comrades-in-arms, and colleagues for taking part in the event and for their trust in the Museum as a space dedicated to preserving historical memory.

Eternal memory to the Hero. Glory to Ukraine!
