When telling the story of Ukraine during the Second World War, it is impossible to overlook the figure of the outstanding Ukrainian writer, film director, and screenwriter Oleksandr Dovzhenko. Under constant surveillance by the Soviet authorities, he continued to create films and tell the story of his Homeland. “Ukraine in Flames” is a film-novel for which the artist miraculously escaped repression, as criticism of the Communist Party and of Stalin himself can be seen in almost every frame.
We invite you to discover this historical work, once banned by Soviet censorship. Together, we will explore the creative world of Oleksandr Dovzhenko and learn about the events of the Second World War through the lens of his art.
